Press Forward Washington Seeks Founding Director
Local News is a Public Good That Connects Communities.
Press Forward Washington (PFWA), a collaborative initiative led by community foundations statewide, is launching a search for its inaugural Director. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to help revitalize independent media, amplify diverse voices, and strengthen democracy across Washington.

Unbiased, trustworthy local news is an essential component of strong communities. People rely on local news outlets to deliver accurate, fair information that enables decisions that impact their lives, such as school board decisions or emergency response situations. PFWA is committed to investing in local journalism, supporting community-centered reporting, and building a more informed, equitable, and resilient Washington.
The Founding Director will:
Lead Chapter Operations: Develop and execute a strategic plan, manage day-to-day operations, ensure strong fiscal oversight, and represent PFWA at events and in the media.
Drive Fundraising: Provide strategic leadership for all fundraising initiatives, cultivate relationships with donors and partners, and oversee grant writing and reporting.
Key Qualifications:
- 6–10 years of leadership and fundraising experience
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strategic thinker with a commitment to equity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a startup environment
- Familiarity with Washington’s local news landscape is a plus
